DURAGAF™ Extended Life Filter Bags Can Improve Your Filtration Process and Save You Money
Why DURAGAF Filter Bags Last Longer
![]() |
DURAGAF filter bags have a unique design that delivers equal filtration performance with lifetimes 2 to 5 times longer than ordinary felt media bags. This means reduced operating costs due to less bag consumption, reduced downtime, and lower storage and disposal costs. The two charts at the right clearly illustrate the longer service life you can expect using DURAGAF filter bags in your application. |
![]() |
DURAGAF filter bags are available in two extended life materials, polypropylene or polyester. These two materials utilize a fiber blend with a finer fiber diameter and a higher weight than ordinary media. The result is a dramatically higher dirt holding capacity at the same efficiency and differential pressure. Processes run longer and need fewer bag changes with DURAGAF filter bags. |
Superior Construction
All welded construction eliminates the bypass that can occur in standard sewn filter bags. Eaton’s proprietary welding technology produces a super-strong seam that will stand up to the most demanding applications without failure. The SENTINEL® ring seal is standard on all DURAGAF filter bags. This pressure actuated sealing ring actually improves its seal as the differential pressure increases. To help prevent unwanted fiber migration DURAGAF filter bags are manufactured with a proprietary downstream surface treatment.
Food and Beverage Applications
DURAGAF filter bags are available in polypropylene and polyester materials that are compliant with FDA and EC requirements for food contact.
Features
- Pinholes, inherent to the sewing process, are potential sources of bypass, thereby reducing bag efficiency. The side and bottom seams, as well as the SENTINEL® rings of POXL and PEXL filter bags are fully welded, thus eliminating this problem.
- The surface of the filter media is subjected to a special heat treatment. This unique treatment reduces the problem of fiber release, while retaining the required surface permeability.
- Increased media thickness enhances the area in which particles are trapped. As a result, a greater amount of particles will be retained.
- The use of micro fibers increases the void volume of the filter media – resulting in longer on-stream life

HAYFLOW™
HAYFLOW combines the best of both bag and cartridge filters into one single filtration element for outstanding filtration performance. This element is uniquely welded and fitted with the SENTINEL sealing ring ensuring a positive seal to protect against bypass.
HAYFLOW Filter Elements…The Best of Both Bag and Cartridge Filtration
FEATURES
- High flow rates – smaller vessels can be used.
- Five times greater life than a filter bag.
- Retains 75% less liquid than a filter bag.
- Easy retro-fit to existing vessels
The best of both bag and cartridge filters in one revolutionary new filter element.
Take advantage of the best of both bag and cartridge filtration with the HAYFLOW™ Filter Element, a new development in filtration technology from Eaton. Usually bag filters are larger than cartridge filters but easier to handle and more cost effective. Now Eaton’s design brings the best of both systems together…high flow rates in compact vessels or a longer lifetime and extended media changing cycles in standard size vessels…all at a reduced cost.
With up to 70% greater surface area than a standard filter bag, filtration system operators and designers can enjoy reduced operating costs using HAYFLOW elements with existing, standard size vessels. Because of the high flow rates possible with HAYFLOW elements, it’s also possible to reduce the size of the filter vessels in new systems by up to 50% thus lowering the initial cost. HAYFLOW elements gives you a choice…lower operating costs or lower initial system cost.
The combination of highly efficient filter media, enlarged surface area, better dirt-holding capabilities and a reduction of the residual liquid volume retained in the element are all compelling reasons to consider HAYFLOW for your filtration applications.
Operator Friendly Design
System operators like HAYFLOW elements because in many applications changing a HAYFLOW element is easier than changing a filter bag. That’s because the HAYFLOW element only retains 25% of the residual liquid volume of a similarly sized filter bag. This means the HAYFLOW element can weigh up to 75% less than a filter bag. Since a full bag can weigh up to 33 pounds this is an important consideration for the system operator. And this lower retention volume means less saleable product has to be discarded with each filter media change and disposal costs are reduced as well.
Application Versatility
Standard HAYFLOW filter elements are available in both polypropylene and polyester extended life needle felt media with a SENTINEL sealing ring. These two materials are very versatile and will perform well in a majority of applications over a wide range of temperatures. For special applications HAYFLOW elements are available with other media choices. Basically, any weldable filtration media can be use to construct a HAYFLOW element for your application. Multi-layered construction is also possible for applications that require it. Using melt-blown polypropylene media, HAYFLOW elements are available with high micron retention ratings, and with selective absorption characteristics as well.
It’s Easy to Change to HAYFLOW Filter Elements
Changing over from ordinary bag filtration to HAYFLOW filtration couldn’t be easier. No new filter vessel is required. Existing vessels need only to be fitted with a new HAYFLOW restrainer basket for instant compatibility. No tools, special equipment or modification to the vessel is required. Just drop in the new basket and you are ready to take advantage of all the benefits offered by HAYFLOW filter elements.
How the HAYFLOW Element Works
The heart of a HAYFLOW filter element is two concentric cylinders of high quality extended life Eaton filter media that are formed using unique fabric welding technology to create a no by-pass seam. The diameter of the cylinder is the same size as a standard filter bag so retrofitting into existing systems is easy. The element features Eaton’s SENTINEL® sealing ring for a positive seal. The process fluid enters the inside of the element, passes through it, and exits through the vessel outlet. The filtered out material stays inside the HAYFLOW element, not on the outside like a filter cartridge, for easy change out.
